How does lotion absorbs into skin?

Ervin Overbee: The skin is not one whole flat surface, darling. It's like a piece of fabric, almost. Think if you put water on a plate, it slides all off. If you put it on a piece of fabric, it goes through, because fabric is made up of a bunch of weaves, leaving it with little holes, and so it kind of has the same effect that human skin has. Like, little itty bitty holes.I really hope this is a joke, as if you are over nine years old you should have learned that the skin is made up of individual cells....Answer mine?http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApRb4......Show more

Lyman Gauld: Most over-the-counter lotions don't actually get "absorbed" by the skin. The liquid in them evaporates off, and the moisturizer sits on the outermost layers of skin cells, making the skin feel softer. Only medications, such as Retin-A, or transdermal nicotine or contraceptive patches, are able to actually penetrate deeper into the skin. Certain chemicals can also penetrate th! e skin.
