Questions about the school of visual arts?

Billie Bratchett: kansas city, mo. has a good one...and johnson county community college in overland park kansas has a decent arts department. they aren't in california, but there is no decent school there.

Jonathon Labonne: It is a verrry steep price. For tuition, theres a calculator on their website. (Its around $40,000 - $60,000)Its a nice school, just be yourself. Basically an art school. For the portfolio, I applied as a painter/drawing major and I submitted my portfolio through SlideRoom, and I sent in Photography, sculpture and other media along with drawing/painting. If they see your talent, they will accept you. As for jobs, you have to talk to your counselor about that, they know. They have financial aid....Show more

Gordon Showes: Not going to lie...tuition is steep, about $40+ grand/year (not including supplies etc.). My experiences with the students there are that they are generally nice even if a bit standoffish at fist. You have to remember they a! re art students though. Us artists have our quirks & we are all going to compete for jobs so it may be awkward at times, but that's life. I found it extremely easy to make friends. I was a Fine Arts major & for the first year I had block classes where the same group of people were in all my classes so it was a lot easier to make friends since we were around each other all the time. The teachers are great. Mostly working artists (some who are very famous in the art world) who will definitely be a wealth of knowledge. Trust me, make friends with them & you will be treated to some stories that will blow your mind! As for it being hard to get into...I believe SVA admits about 60% of applicants so you have decent odds. Also, make sure to take time & put together a good portfolio before you submit your application. Portfolio requirements for the department you wish to apply to should be on the SVA website. As for what jobs you can get in cartooning & animation...that's always up i! n the air. In an ever changing business you can never plan whe! re you will end up, but SVA is always having studios like PIXAR & Lucas Film etc. doing workshops and talks at the school so you definitely have the opportunity to meet some important people & make good connections. Also, internships are provided if you qualify & job postings are always available to help you with your search during & after graduation. Finally, financial aid is available. My suggestion is to make an appointment with a financial aid adviser & go over your options. I must say they helped me out a lot. Well, I hope some of your questions were answered & good luck with your applications....Show more
