Hope Lundmark: I assume you are anticipating college? With over 30 years in the health care field I have not regreted my decison to pursue nursing. One of the advantages of nursing is that it allows the nurse to work within a large variety of health care fields. If you like patient care fine. After a few years you decide you want to work in Surgery...go for it.
Mikel Bethay: Pediatrics is a good idea but you need a strong stomach for it. Too many sick babies and they can't talk to tell you what the problem is. Also a lot of babies are stillborn or born with cancer or addicted to drugs or ever with deformities. If you can't handle things like that you need to think of another field. Why not try general health care (GP) then decide where you want to go from there. Another option is a Paramedic, you get to see a little bit of everything which will help you decide the way you want to go! .
