Does this receiver have optical input?

Jinny Dronen: Your unit DOES NOT have optical input...its a stereo receiver, but is capable of handling 5.1 sound through a DVD player that have a digital sound decoder, by using the RCA inputs on your kenwood unit.

Buster Buchko: I don't own one, but the eBay stuff I looked at indicated it's like 10 years old or so. When you have to send audio output from a DVD or other digital source, where there are multiple left and right channels (as in Dolby 5.1), you can do it in 3 ways: first, you can use 3 sets of wires, one for each channel set, or you can use digital audio signals of the SPDIF (Sony/Philips Digital Interface) type. This uses one connector and sends the signals in pulses of digital information, and is connected either with one co-axial RCA cable, or a fiber-optic (optical) cable. I've had a few times where my speaker system is co-axial and my computer sound card is optical, and it's a pain to convert from one to the other.I looked at eBay, and I saw a! v8080 being offered (for 9.95, no bids), and the pictures of the rear panel didn't show any SPDIF or digital audio connectors, just a forest of analog connectors. If your 9080 is anything like this, then it doesn't have digital audio input either (and it will probably sell for just about the price of shipping, but hey... you never know until you try)This place has an online manual (or so they say):http://www.online-owners-manual.com/kr-v9080.html...Show more
